Florida beginning to take shape; Romney and McCain leading

The race in Florida looks to be a tight race between Romney and McCain. John McCain received a major boost from the most politically organized individual in the state and that is the governor Charlie Crist.

However, polls are showing both candidates polling 30 percent of the vote in a Zogby poll out on Sunday.

The biggest news though is that Giuliani got only 13 percent, which placed him one percentage point behind Mike Huckabee. This is horrible news for Rudy especially since he has spent heavily on Florida, campaigning almost exclusively in the southeastern state and staying away from the earlier elections in smaller states. After the Crist endorsement to McCain, the writing on the wall became very clear.

Giuliani is remaining confident that his strategy will payoff, he said, “”The people who won those (early) primaries, they got all the attention. Now what we have to do is establish ourselves here in Florida.” It’s a little too late to establish ones self in Florida especially after campaigning for nearly a year in the state.

Tuesday’s primary has the highest stakes to date. It will send 57 delegates to the national convention that will nominate the Republican presidential candidate in September.

The contest will also give the winner key momentum on the way to the February 5 “Super Tuesday,” when voting will be held in more than 20 states.
