McCain’s victories says a lot about state of Republican Party

McCain won 9 states on Tuesday and is viewed as the winner in the Republican Primaries on Super Tuesday. However, the states McCain lost tell us more about his support as well the divisions in the party.

The states that McCain won are all traditionally “blue” states and not even McCain running as a Republicrat could hope to win in a general election. He won states like California, New York and Illinois, liberal-moderate states, while being universally rejected by traditional solid “red” states. There is a clear line being drawn and it’s telling from the results.

Folks in the South were willing to vote for the “write off” candidate, Mike Huckabee before willingly give their votes to a man that most core-conservatives distrust and even hate. Huckabee’s success, followed by Romney’s personal wealth and unwillingness to quit, will further exasperate these factions and infighting.

I don’t think we’ve seen the lows just yet. The race is not over, and the Republican Party is not unified.
