Rove and GOP operatives want Romney as VP

The so-called political mastermind and former Bush administration political guru Karl Rove is voicing rather bluntly that Sen. John McCain pick Mitt Romney as his running mate, according to Washington columnist Robert Novak.

According to Novak, Rove and other GOP movers want Romney in the VP spot despite the reported hard feelings the two have for one another. Supposedly, this feud grew from their rivalry during the Republican presidential primaries. To say that bad blood doesn’t exist between the two Republicans would be a lie. However, to say that the feud would somehow prevent any talk of a possible union is a childish and amateurish theory.

If it is politically viable, and McCain sees the chance that the move would unite the Party, those once hard feelings would soon disappear. Both men are successful and professional politicians, not childish and amateurish.

However, there are those in the Romney camp that are against the option of vice president. The political maneuvers in the Florida primary prompted talk from Romney supporters that McCain obtained the vital endorsement of Florida Gov. Charlie Crist by promising him the vice presidential nomination. Until then, the Romney insiders claim, their private polls showed a lead in the Jan. 29 primary that in fact delivered a crushing victory for McCain.

Nonetheless, we all know that Romney endorsed McCain for president afterwards. Again, this points to the fact that political victory is the sole objective of any campaign. Romney mustered showed pragmatism by putting aside grudges and endorsed McCain. So is McCain just as capable of doing the same by asking Romney to run on VP slot.

Of course it really is all up to McCain and GOP advisors to formulate the best equation for victory.
