Louisiana: Senate GOP candidate readying campaign with huge fundraisng events

John Kennedy received valuable support from President Bush who helped raise $800,000 at a Baton Rouge event last week. Now, Kennedy hopes that Wall Street can do the same for his campaign against popular incumbent, U.S. Senator Landrieu. He will be hosting a fundraiser in New York at the New York Athletic Club this Wednesday. The suggested contribution is $2,300.

This substantial fundraising ride is both needed and appreciated for his battle against Landrieu. There are some insiders in the state that the see the race closer than previous polls show. An independent survey showed her leading Treasurer John Kennedy, 50-38 percent. Additionally, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee had Landrieu leading Kennedy, 55-39 percent. (There was some controversy involving Landrieu over the polling read about it here and here.)

However, Rasmussen Reports poll showed Landrieu leading only 47-46 percent.

My guess this race will get closer as it goes on. At any rate, Landrieu will have the edge as an incumbent and a record of getting federal aid to New Orleans and the surrounding coastal areas. Plus, the fact that Kennedy is only recently a Republican. Before he was an economic populist Democrat. It may be hard for some to comment to such political maneuvering.
