McCain offering timetables for Iraq?

Yes he did it. He went so far as to say the war would be over and won and the troops home by 2013, if elected President. This marks the first time to my knowledge that McCain (or any serious GOPer) has offered a timeline as a campaign issue. I recall him blasting Mitt Romney and his Democratic rivals for offering timelines. As he called it, a timeline for defeat. Now we’re seeing McCain backing off such a hard stance of ‘whatever it takes’ to victory and withdrawl by 2013.

“I’m not putting a date on it. It could be next month. It could be next year,” he told reporters on the Straight Talk Express bus. “I said by the end of my first term we will have succeeded in Iraq…This is what I want to achieve. This is what I believe is achievable.”
