Will the South be in play for Democrats in November?
Barack Obama has created a surge of black voters. There is no denying that. He has also energized young people to register and vote for the first time. However, his biggest asset has been to tap into the passionate black support that otherwise has remained marginal in most places — mainly the South. This year’s record numbers in voter turn out is showing that is no longer the case…at least this year.Are the Democrat victories in Louisiana and Mississippi a microcosm of things to come in the General election? Some see the South as an ‘open’ contest and the Democrats are in good position to challenge the GOP dominance in the region. I’ll say not likely…
