Federal Judgeships may be the binding issue for the Republican Party

Anti-McCain conservatives and Republicans alike may see the one glaring issue that stands in their way from completely abandoning McCain in this year’s general election. Of course, I’m referring to appointments of Federal Judges. Many already view the Democratic Party with a certain degree of suspicion when it comes to American values and traditions. If this is the case, even more downright fear Barack Obama and his extreme secular views and far-left liberal tendencies when it comes to God, freedom of worship, abortion etc.

At hand for the new President, whomever that may be, will have an unprecedented opportunity to appoint several judges over a four year term. If Barack Obama is elected, along with a very liberal administration he is surely to assemble, the outcome of his appointments could re-shape America into a very left-leaning country that legislates secular laws and holds a liberal worldview.

McCain has stated over and over that he is in favor of appointing judges like Samuel Alito and John Roberts. Both in which are thought to be conservative constitutionalist judges. Obama on the other hand has stated he would do just the opposite by appointing liberal judges like Bader Ginsberg and David Souter. Both in which are in favor of legislating from the bench and viewing the laws that reflect their world outlook.

Conservatives and Republicans see the potential disaster of a liberal administration appointing federal judges who are cosy with the ACLU. This may be the one unifying issue (even above the cooling issue of illegal-immigration) that McCain and many in the Republican establishment have been looking for.
