Free Speech?
Reverend Hagee is back in the news again, this time taking back his endorsement of Sen. John McCain. This is not the story, the real story is why. Why is the media attacking someone by blatantly misrepresenting their views? With the Rev. Wright, the audio and video clips were all over the news allowing us to hear directly, in his voice, what he said. However with Hagee, it’s different. We hear only people’s perception of what Hagee has said. Last evening while driving home I was listening to a local talk show host, Brian Sussman, on KSFO. He not only had a discussion about the controversy of what was said, but played the audio clip of Hagee’s comments, followed by an analysis by a regular guest of the show, dubbed “Dr. History”. The only historical inaccuracy that was pointed out, was when the Jews had begun the Zionist movement by purchasing land in an effort to regain their homeland. Hagee’s sermon makes an argument that the events of the holocaust and reinstatement of the nation of Israel was a fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. But why is this so controversial? By claiming that an evil regime had caused Biblical prophesy to be realized? Or is it because Hagee’s stand is blatantly pro-Israel? It has become politically incorrect amongst the left to be pro-Israel because of the appeasement mentality towards certain governments in the region that call for the destruction of Israel.
