Jeff Beatty officially on the ballot for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts

Jeff Beatty received the amount of signatures needed to compete against Senator John Kerry for U.S. Senator for Massachusetts. He gathered around 17,000 signatures and appears to be leading the way in the Republican primary over Jim Ogonowski.

Even more good news coming from Beatty’s campaign is that he has raised $ 1 million from 28,000 small donors.

“I am proud of our campaign and honored by the overwhelming support,” said Joe Manzoli, Jeff Beatty’s campaign manager. “We know Jeff can win the primary and that John Kerry can be beaten this fall.  28,000 donors and growing shows people are responding to this cause and want Jeff Beatty to make it happen.”

The support for Beatty in these results is in sharp contrast to his Republican primary opponent.  Despite a strong early showing, Jim Ogonowski raised just a third of Beatty’s number from far fewer donors.  Beatty spent most of 2007 exploring this run for Senate, and announced his candidacy early in 2008.   After a year of economic forums, town hall meetings and speeches to groups across the state, Beatty is convinced that people in Massachusetts are hungry for a new Senate leader to represent their interests in Washington.

  1. I hope this guy beats Kerry. I doubt if its possible but I would really like to see a strong candidate come in a put up a real challenge. I think this guy just may do that.

  2. Rick,

He certainly has the credentials to do it. It really comes down to how much money he can raise and how competitive he can be against machine politics and the ‘old guard’. Kerry wether people there like him or not, he has become a statue and sort of a tradition in Mass. That, in it’ self, is hard to beat.
