McCain/Bloomberg ticket for GOP?….Nah
Interesting speculation has surfacedrecently when McCain visited New York city and praised Bloomberg for the job he has done in the Big Apple. When asked about Bloomberg he refused to rule anything out about the Independent Mayor running has his VP for the GOP. Further, he hinted that Bloomberg was being considered.
“Do I think he could serve the state of New York and the country well? Of course.” We don’t talk about our vice-presidential possibilities. I appreciate Mayor Bloomberg enormously and the great job he’s done as mayor.”
The buzz is that after an initial meeting between the two men, the mayor was moved on McCain’s “short list” for the vice presidential slot.
However, I find it unlikely that he will be the pick, for either candidate for that matter. It would be a sexy idea due to his personal wealth and his ‘Independent-Moderate’ label but in the end McCain will need to choose an ‘anchor.’ Someone (a Conservative) who can settle the nerves of the party and perhaps gain him a solid and needed state; perhaps, even an entire region. There are only a few candidates who can fit that bill for McCain. As interesting as Bloomberg is and the possibility of making New York competitive with his support, would probably hurt McCain with his base’s support. McCain is having a hard enough time proving to people that they can trust him, bringing in someone who isn’t even a member of the GOP would, I’m afraid, have negative results.
