Huckabee says demonizing Obama would be fatal mistake

Former GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee called Barack Obama’s candidacy “a landmark achievement” Tuesday, and warned fellow Republicans not to demonize Obama.“Republicans will make a fundamental if not fatal mistake if they seek to win the election by demonizing Barack Obama,” Huckabee told reporters in Tokyo, according to a report by Agence France-Presse.

I agree, though he might want to tell Barack Obama that. He has clearly shown that his reputation, past, comments, associates, church and strategy is based entirely on race and division.

And why is this topic reserved for the GOP when the Democrat play the game much better than the GOP ever could.

  1. Governor Huckabee was just at the Texas GOP convention, and I believe he saw something that is pretty shameful. There were people wearing pins that asked “If Obama is President… will we still call it the White House?” I don’t think Mike has a problem with the GOP going after Obama on policy differences, but I do believe Mike wants to win this election in an honorable way. I think it is stuff like this pin that Mike is talking about, and I must say as a conservative African American I am disappointed in my party. This has nothing to do about policy, and everything to do about race.

  2. You’re exactly right. He may very well have been. And what you are referring to is an outright shame. I understand the guy has been identified. Good for him, I hope he enjoys his ‘fame’.

But what I’m referring to is the nice, smily, policy driven debate only. A few jokes here and there, what a wonderful time you’ve had and what an honor it is to share the stage with Obama, the first African American candidate, and no matter who wins the country will be in great hands. That’s crap and how McCain won the GOP nomination. The GOP primaries where more pathetic than the Dems. McCain took full advantage of free passes and the reluctance of the other candidates to fully engage him as if it would draw the disapproval of the voters. That alone should be lesson one.

That will not win it this year. There is too much divide and too much at stake. I believe the future of America as we know it to be is at stake. Obama represents some very radical ideas and change straight from the failed policies of the 60s and 70s.

  3. “… is based entirely on race and division.”

WTF? I don’t think that is true.

  4. What part don’t you think is not true? Have you been following things the past few months. Read his southern strategy? Seen or heard his friends lately? I don’t understand how two people can see, read, and hear the same thing but come out with two totally different conclusions. It truly baffles me.

  5. I agree. There are plenty of ways to attack Barack Obama. Let’s not give Republicans a bad name by spreading false rumors.

Way to go Governor Huckabee and way to go to whoever wrote this article!
